Sunset Cruises 2015 Year in Review

Captain Potts has put the two boats away for the winter - Peerless II & Idyllwood.

All staff enjoyed end of season appreciation dinner in November.  It was the Captains turn to serve all his staff with a nice dinner.

New this past season - 3 days in June, there was a 2 for 1 special which many passengers enjoyed.  Many visitors to Muskoka joined  Captain Potts while he shared his commentary of the area.

NEW FEATURE this 2015 season - Idyllwood operated every Tuesday for 9 weeks - starting June 30th/2015 from Sherwood Inn main dock.  The guests at the Inn  along with many visitors to the area, enjoyed the spectacular Sunsets on Lake Joseph this summer.  Afternoon sightseeing cruises were a hit as well.

Annual Fireworks cruise - Peerless II joined the Walkers Point Canada Day Celebrations on lovely Lake Muskoka.

Peerless II  Birthday Celebration Saturday, July 18th with special 1 hour cruises and birthday cake for all that joined the Captain & Crew.

Fridays all summer long Peerless II joined the Rosseau Farmers Market with 1 hour cruises from the village dock.  Passengers enjoyed the chance to see Lake Rosseau and cruise into Morgan's Bay with        Captain Potts & Crew.

Special Feature summer 2015 - All Day Lake Joseph Cruise - Passengers boarded at Port Carling for the adventure.  People at Port Sandfield stopped in traffic with the swing bridge watched as Peerless II departed Lake Rosseau and entered into the lovely Lake Joseph.  Passengers aboard Peerless II waved to the onlookers.  Lunch was served on this special voyage while Captain Potts shared the high lights of the area.

WEDDINGS aboard Peerless II  - very special to have the Captain stop the ship for the wedding vows for the bride & groom.  Then after the wedding vows are completed the ship completes the special cruise for the couple with their family & friends.  Many of our previous wedding couples join Peerless II for their anniversary.

Weddings aboard Sunset Cruises -Idyllwood -  Very popular for the bridle party to be picked up at the bride's private cottage dock and carry her with her bridle party to the church for her grand arrival.

SUNSET DINNER CRUISES - this summer aboard Peerless II were amazing, followed by the moon in the clear sky.

IDYLLWOOD - joined the "Rosseau Classic Cruise Event"  Saturday, August 1/2015 with special 1 hour cruises for the passengers.  This was the 8th Annual Rosseau Classic Cruise event.

FALL COLOURS - Sunset Cruises Peerless II & Idyllwood had many amazing fall colours cruises out on the Muskoka Lakes.

Captain Potts & Crew wish to thank everyone for a wonderful 2015 season out on the Muskoka Lakes this summer - we hope to see everyone again next season.

Muskoka Fall Cruises

Huckleberry Rock Lake Muskoka

As the cruising season in Ontario’s cottage country winds down, Sunset Cruises has saved the best for last with fabulous fall tours of Lake Muskoka and Lake Rosseau aboard the Peerless II, offered until late October, 2015.

Peerless II at Port Carling Dock

Originally operating as a delivery boat in these parts in the early 20th century, the Peerless II now delights visitors who want to explore Muskoka’s famous waterways on a cruise boat but who seek a more intimate experience than you’ll find on a bigger boat. This smaller cruise boat can also navigate into waterways some of the bigger boats can’t access.

Cruising on Lake Rosseau

And no time of year is better than autumn to experience the region’s rugged shorelines, shimmering blue waters, majestic pines and, of course, the colorful burst of changing maple leaves back on shore. (And don’t forget to bring your camera; you’re sure to snap one of the best photos for your souvenir album ever.)

Port Carling Lock Chamber

Based out of the famous locks in Port Carling, Ontario, the
Peerless II daily embarks on tours that range from 1.5 to 3 hours. Depending on the cruise and time of reservation, passengers can book  delicious food service as well.

Captain Potts

Every passenger can expect to enjoy informative commentary by ‘Captain Potts’ who, with over 30 years’ experience, regales folks with historic tidbits, local legends, and nautical information. His insights along of the way are sure to delight, and will help evoke a genuine sense of what it was like to cruise Muskoka when the lakes were far more inaccessible than they are today.

Fall Colour from on board Peerless II

And don’t forget the unbeatable sunsets!

Sunset Cruises Peerless II May 24/2015

Getting ready for our busy Summer Season.

Finally have the awning in place for the wet days or the  extreme sunny days out on the Muskoka Lakes.

Staff has been busy working away at painting all the areas of the boat that after the long hard cold winter, needed freshening up.

Ready for our first cruise up the Muskoka River to join with Breakfast Television for their special event broadcast LIVE with Jennifer Valentyne.  Many of our local Bracebridge Chamber of Commerce members attended this exciting event.  Santa's Village staff along with several of Santa's many helpers and Santa himself attended.  Great way to kick off the Victoria Day May 24 long weekend in the Explorers' Edge region of Ontario.  Bracebridge and surrounding area has so much to offer with our many waterfalls and the amazing Muskoka Falls.

Spring in Muskoka

The ice is out of the river and the water is low due to the allowance for spring melt and spring rains in the large catchment area that is the Muskoka Watershed. With all the winter snow fall  to melt, the snow/water fills up the depleted water levels and add to it the spring rains, often the watershed goes into flood. Sometimes 2 - 3 ft above summer normal levels.

April 6 2015 Muskoka River level.

Lake Muskoka is the lowest point in the watershed and the single largest lake in the system so it takes a long time to fill up and to drain down.   2 years ago we had very high water with about 3 feet above normal.  By June it is almost normal although often a swift current remains for a few weeks after the levels are normalized.
